Storyboard

I decide to create 3 idents for the the channel 4, because I found there is no 3d ident in this channel. but I am not good at drawing, so it is a little bit harder for me to draw all the story.

1.The first idea is that small dog create a 4.

2. Catch the flying disk. 3. drag a 4 into the scene.
these are general ideas I may follow to create the 3d ident, I will develop and improve the story in the process of creating.

Skin a hand

Today we have learned the skin tool. by this course we can set the bone for our modelling and connect them with the bone. and control them by controlling the bone.

this blog Iwill make one of my hand modelling which ws created on last semster alive.

first, modify the hand to make it easy to set bone inside.

I set 8 bones for 3 fingers instead of 5 fingers, because it is enough to control the hand by themin this animation.
adjust the bone by the bone tool in animation menu. we can not move one single bone by the select and move tool.

set two HI solvers for the two fingers can be moved.

unfreeze the hand and go to modify menu to choose the skin, and then move the cross on the fingers to move the finger.

Morpher

Morpher is a very interesting tool, and I can change my object to other terminal object which was modified from the regional one.

This tutorial I created was by a practice, and it looked like a flower finally.

Firstly, draw a box, set the value like the figure below.

Cover it to Editable poly, and then clone 2 other boxes. And change the colour.
Select the first clone box and go to toolbar on the top and go to Modifier, parameters deformers, and pick Spherify.

Then select the second clone box and go to toolbar on the top and go to Modifier, parameters deformers, and pick Ripple.

Select the regional one, go to Morpher, and pick the fist clone box as the first one, and then the second box, then the first again.

Open the automatic key, and change the first channel to 100 on the timeline 20, change the second channel to 100 on the timeline 40, change the third channel to 100 on the timeline 60.

Save and render it on the top of view.

Animation Path

This week I have learned how to create an object fallowing a path, and this object could be a camera as well, so I can set the path of the camera when I take a animation video.

1.A basic path

Firstly, draw a star path, and a sphere.
Select the sphere and go to tool bar on the top. Choose animation, constraints and path constraint. Then there is a dotted line comes out, pull it onto the star path.save and rander it.

2. Camera path

The way of setting camera is the same. Firstly, draw an object to shoot, and then draw a circle around it, at last draw a target camera and set the target to the object. Secondly, repeat the steps last animation.

3. Visit a room

At last, I create the path to visit a room.
Build a simple room, I have used the material editor make it easier to see, and one target light through the window as the sunshine and two omnis as nomal light, one on the top, other on the left to light the door side,

and draw the path by line on the floor in the top view. Set a free camera on it.

To create the animation, the important thing is setting the target , otherwise, it will only shoot one position all the time.

save it to AVI file, and render it.

Moodboard of three channels

when I got this mission I was quite confused, because I never watched any of British channels before except BBC news, but if I choose some Chinese channel, nobody may know them here, so today I have been watching several of TV channels in UK generally, and visiting their websites, at last I chose two British channels which I thought were very good at that moment, and these moodboards are some kinds of feeling after I watched them, they may give me some ideas about the storyboards which I am going to design later.

The channels

1.more4

This channel is for the people aged 35-60. there are more discussion analysis programmes, they try to find something behind the story.

2.BBC one

actually I quite liked this comprehensive channel , because there are a lot of different excellent programmes, such as movie, sport, news and so on, and it is more valuable than other one.

3, MTV

This one is the most famous music TV channel in the world, I like music so I often watched it , there are always some fashionable and wonderful music on it, and some programmes about music or stars are also pretty good, especially I like the logo of MTV, and this channel has a lot of interesting indents as well.

Semester2, Animation- basic tools

This week I will begin to learn the more interesting part in 3D max, Animation. It will be a little bit harder than the modelling part I think, because a wonderful animation used to be built up basic on the good 3d model, so in this semester I will not only learning the animation but also keep on improving my 3d modelling skill at the same time.

In the first lecture I was taught the basic animation knowledge, which includes the basic animation tools and how to create a simple animation AVI movie.

For creating the animation in 3D max the important part is the tool bar below the view window, in fact, the animation is just a group of continuous model in continuous time, so the important thing is how to set the time for a model.

There’re two methods to set up the time on the timeline, Auto Key and Set Key, the Auto key is a automatic way to set up the time, click the Auto Key button, move the slider, and then change the position of the model. The Set Key can set time freely on timeline. For example, set a time not from the start point of timeline, but it is necessary step to click the KEY sign to set the key.

There is a small button with a clock on it called time configuration, to set the timeline.

To modify and rebuild the animation there is a tool called Curve Editor ,there are three lines on it instead of the displacement on x, y ,z. There are a lot of tools can be used to modify the position of the model.

I created a small animation during the lecture, and that was two boards hit a small ball, at first, I created the first hitting process with Auto Key, then I add an out-of- range type, so the board can hit the ball continually.

here I add two dummy as well, and I link one of them for each board, it is not big help in this aimation ,but this dummy will show how the object moves, and it will show in the final video.

at last, save the animation, click the Render Scene Dialog, cilck Range to choose a timeline, and click file to save it as AVI file then render it.

I've made other practice, not good enough, but I got some feeling about animation.

Sunshine August

The purpose of creating this image is improving my skill using the lighting, and the goal I would to see is the sunshine on the sea, because August is a very hot season, the sun is very strong and harsh to the eye, and maybe there is some steam arising on the sea level.

The lighting
I use two omni lights in this image, and I plan to use one of them as the big strong sun, other one as the normal light, to shine the whole scene.

1. Sun
Go to lights, and drag a omni to the top view and adjust its position, to make it just show on the top of scene,

Set the Attenuation value for this light: this value will be set depend on how high the sun is in this image. The value for my image is Near Attenuation 0,180, Far Attenuation is 180,880.

Add a lens effect to create the sun effect, setup the lens effect, and add Glow, Ray, Auto secondary, Star and Steak in the lens effect parameters, and then setup the value for them by clicking them on the right panel.
Lens effects globals
Ray
Star
Steak

2. Now drag other omni light on the top view as normal light, but it should be high enough to shine the entire scene,
Set the Attenuation value for this light,

Fog
Choose the Helpers button on the right panel, and Atmospheric Apparatus, and choose the SphereGizmo, and drag it to the front view to create a fog area
I just need the top area of SphereGizmo, so click hemisphere to cut the bottom part.

Click the button setup to set the values for the fog, and modify all the value in the new panel.

Rendering

I use a sky picture as the background, and a camera to pick the good angle picture.
