Semester2, Animation- basic tools

This week I will begin to learn the more interesting part in 3D max, Animation. It will be a little bit harder than the modelling part I think, because a wonderful animation used to be built up basic on the good 3d model, so in this semester I will not only learning the animation but also keep on improving my 3d modelling skill at the same time.

In the first lecture I was taught the basic animation knowledge, which includes the basic animation tools and how to create a simple animation AVI movie.

For creating the animation in 3D max the important part is the tool bar below the view window, in fact, the animation is just a group of continuous model in continuous time, so the important thing is how to set the time for a model.

There’re two methods to set up the time on the timeline, Auto Key and Set Key, the Auto key is a automatic way to set up the time, click the Auto Key button, move the slider, and then change the position of the model. The Set Key can set time freely on timeline. For example, set a time not from the start point of timeline, but it is necessary step to click the KEY sign to set the key.

There is a small button with a clock on it called time configuration, to set the timeline.

To modify and rebuild the animation there is a tool called Curve Editor ,there are three lines on it instead of the displacement on x, y ,z. There are a lot of tools can be used to modify the position of the model.

I created a small animation during the lecture, and that was two boards hit a small ball, at first, I created the first hitting process with Auto Key, then I add an out-of- range type, so the board can hit the ball continually.

here I add two dummy as well, and I link one of them for each board, it is not big help in this aimation ,but this dummy will show how the object moves, and it will show in the final video.

at last, save the animation, click the Render Scene Dialog, cilck Range to choose a timeline, and click file to save it as AVI file then render it.

I've made other practice, not good enough, but I got some feeling about animation.
